Alternative Provision
FSD Academy offers a unique, three-layered approach to Alternative Provision education for primary and secondary school children.
Alternative Provision
Founded by former Leicester City footballers Matthew Piper and Owen Johnson, FSD Academy specialises in re-engaging young people who have struggled to adapt to mainstream education through an Alternative Provision programme that has been developed to support and progress students in four areas:
- Life skills and discipline
- Football development and sports coaching
- Fitness
- Positive role models
As well as increased academic success, one of the most noticeable differences we see in our Alternative Provision students is their engagement, confidence, self-esteem and social skills. We believe this is down to our dedication to connecting with—and believing in—all individuals, regardless of their background, character, circumstances or current ability. FSD Academy is a ‘family’ environment where politeness, respect and positive thinking lead our core values.
Secondary Provision
Our provision for Year 8 to Year 11 provides a unique mix of sports coaching, academic education and life skills. The FSD Pathways Alternative Provision was founded upon the success of our further education programme and learning environment, which delivered impressive results during the four years it was running.
This included an average attendance rate of 93% compared with below 60% at secondary school, a 100% pass rate in both BTEC Level 2 and Level 3 Diploma in Sport, a 75% transition rate from Alternative Provision to our post-16 academic programme, and many of our students progressing onto university.
The FSD Alternative Provision programme offers a structure for progress with enough flexibility to ensure engagement and connection. We usually welcome students up to a maximum of two days per week.
FSD Pathways Provision students will get the chance to:
Gain qualifications through our Prince’s Trust Achieve Programme
Participate in an active programme of football and sports-related training
Access our on-site gym and clubhouse
Learn from leading sports coaches
Meet role models from sports and all walks of life
Develop their social skills, confidence and self-esteem
Discover a pathway to further education in sport and beyond
Primary Provision
We are delighted to now be able to provide our Alternative Provision programme to primary school aged children at the Grove Community Hub in Braunstone, Leicester.
This new Pathways programme launched in September 2022, with a limited number of placements available per day, Monday to Friday, 10am-2pm (term-time only).
Children will undertake a qualification in Sports Leaders, while their Maths and English education will be supported by our four fully qualified FSD staff.
